After Harvest ends and the holidays wrap up, things start to slow down everywhere, including at The Reserve. This much-needed downtime is akin to hibernation out in the wild. This year, we were blessed with quite a few rainy days that gave us another reason to slow down and catch up—which, in our case involves planting cover crops, pruning vines, and repairing trellises. While the vines were being nourished, so were we.
Nestled in a hillside forest oasis tucked away opposite the tennis courts is Meadowood’s new spa that debuted in November 2015. So harmonious with the rest of the property, it’s as if this Backen, Gillam & Kroeger-designed beauty has always been here. It should come as no surprise that the very same architects also designed Meadowood, The Napa Valley Reserve, Screaming Eagle, and Harlan Estate, among other Valley masterpieces.
One of the many benefits of good wine is that it brings good people together. Another bonus is that it’s both an intellectual and a sensory exploration that knows no bounds. All of this was evident at The Reserve one clear, beautiful spring night in April. That’s when the esteemed General Manager of Château Cheval Blanc and Château d’Yquem, Pierre Lurton, joined us for dinner and shared seven of his legendary Bordeaux wines in the elegant comfort of our hospitality barn.
Summer is the season of abundance in our gardens. At this time, the vegetable garden is planted and filling out with budding flowers that soon will be vegetables. The perennial flowerbeds are awakening from their winter dormancy and are displaying their beautiful flowers. The orchard tree fruits are swelling towards becoming our juicy summer treats.

This exciting event is a unique, hands-on opportunity for Members and their guests to immerse themselves in the art of blending wines at The Napa Valley Reserve. Join Reserve Winemaker Marco Gressi for an instructive seminar on how to craft an exceptional wine using the basic fundamentals of flavor profiling.
Members and their guests will be divided into teams to create their own blend. Foundation wines from the 2015 vintage will be provided and Members will discover which have the potential to add various components such as depth and elegance. Once each team has crafted a blend that best suits its collective palate, the winemaking team will then sample the final products and choose a favorite. Members will have the chance to share their experiences and newfound knowledge of winemaking over a relaxing springtime lunch paired with a selection of fine wines.
